A Look at Requirements of the FIPP Credential

A graduate of Rangaraya Medical College in India, Dr. Sai Gutti currently serves as a clinical professor of interventional pain management at the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Sai Gutti, who is also a private practice physician, holds a number of professional credentials that include a Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP).

The FIPP is administered by the World Institute of Pain, an international professional membership organization that was founded in 1993. The organization, which works to advance and standardize interventional pain practices, first implemented the FIPP in 2001. Currently, over 1,000 medical practitioners hold the FIPP certification from nearly sixty countries.

To qualify for the FIPP, individuals must first complete a four year accredited residency training program and hold a license to practice medicine from their country of residence. Moreover, candidates must hold certification from an accredited board of the American Board of Medical Specialties or comparable board in their country of residence. In addition to this, candidates from the United States must hold board certification from the American Board of Anesthesiology and Pain Management or the American Board of Pain Medicine.

Lastly, each candidate for the FIPP credential must have at least twelve months of clinical practice in the area of pain medicine and adhere to ethical and professional standards. For additional information on the FIPP and its requirements, visit http://www.wip-boe.org.
